| What are on line study groups? |
Study groups typically consist of 3-6 students who work together through the subject matter for a period of 6-10 weeks, using a study guide, and assisted by an experienced mentor. After finishing this exercise, the student will have gained a better understanding of the covered topics to enable them to function better in their health technology positions. In addition, they will be better prepared to take any of the certification exams (PARCA, CIIP, etc.). This is a good tool for students who just finished course work, have done extensive self study, and/or have extensive experience in the subject matter and need a refresher. This study method is also beneficial for those who rely on peer pressure to complete their study assignments. It is not recommended for students who are novices as they may quickly get lost or fall behind.

| Who provides these study groups? |
These study groups are provided by OTech Inc. using the OTechU Learning Management System (LMS). The faculty is provided by OTech and Clarkson College. Each group will be assigned a mentor who will assist with any subject matter questions. A course coordinator is also available for questions on how to use the LMS or any user issues that might arise.

| Who are the mentors? |
A mentor is a domain expert from the applicable field of certification. They are volunteers who give up their time to support their peers in their advancement and assist them in their review process to achieve a certain certification. Students are assigned to a mentor by our course coordinator.

| How does it work? |
After you fill in the Qualification Questionnaire to join a study group starting on a specific date, the course coordinator will send you an email with an assigned group and a password enrolling you to a specific group forum in OTechU. Each person is then teamed up with another member to answer any applicable assignments, which are then discussed among the group members. Each group’s mentor will guide the discussions and, if necessary, provide an expert opinion. Mentors have a back-up faculty in case there are any detailed questions and/or differences on opinions about certain topics.

| Can anyone join? |
These study groups are open to anyone wanting to study towards achieving a specific certification for a minimal fee. If you don’t have the applicable study guide for this certification, you should purchase it, see OTech Study Guides (CIIP study guide is provided electronically on-line). Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis, limited by the number of mentors we have available. You should have experience in the particular subject matter, have done extensive self-study, or followed any of the available courses. The cost to participate is $50 unless you have attended the OTech seminars or Clarkson College courses that cover the particular subject of the study group you are interested in, in which case it is free.

| What is my commitment? |
Your commitment to your peers is that you will actively participate and work on the assignments. If you fall more than one week behind, you should contact the course coordinator to schedule you for the next study group, which will typically start about 2-3 months later. You can only reschedule once. You are required to acknowledge your commitment electronically at the time of the confirmation for the study group.
