The DICOM reference guide is intended for department administrators, PACS administrators, radiological technologists, IT personnel, and students. It explains the key concepts of DICOM, answers common questions about the standard and provides an excerpt of the most frequently used tables in the standard, particularly the UID's and the most common DICOM Attributes and type definitions. It can be used as a table reference manual and a resource to find frequently needed information. For a more in-depth discussion of the standard, it is recommended one uses the DICOM Basics book.

The reference manual discusses the following topics: Basic radiology workflow and related DICOM services, modality worklist, image acquisition, image transfer, data Integrity checking, workstation worklist, image retrieval and display, adding outside images to PACS, establishing a test environment, and installing new modalities. Reference tables containing commonly used DICOM attributes, VR's and UID's as well as an indexed glossary are also included. This manual contains 46 pages.

The author is Herman Oosterwijk, MSc, MBA, who has been involved with the DICOM standardization effort since its inception in 1983 as the ACR-NEMA standard. Herman Oosterwijk has trained thousands of people around the world on the subject of DICOM. His book is based on his teaching experience and the many classes and seminars.
