(Running time: 58 minutes) This course discusses the various medical image types, characteristics, and issues. The acquired knowledge is important for people that work in the medical imaging domain and do not have good understanding and appreciation of the complexity of this matter, or for people that want to get into the medical field and need to get a basic understanding of this subject.

Different imaging techniques and their characteristics are discussed with sample images, such as CT, MRI, Nuclear medicine, X-ray, Ultrasound, and other modalities. Image quality factors, which consist of the many components that are involved with the steps from image acquisition to display and/or print are explained.

Special attention is given to the image display and image management aspects. Image management is typically provided by a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), which does not only archive the medical images but also facilitates the workflow.
