(Running time: 1 hour 25 minutes) This module describes the basic functions and activities that a system administrator of a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) in a medical imaging department has to perform. It describes what system administration is all about, including maintenance and support, technical and clinical coordination as well as the coordination between the different parties involved with this system. Activities are project management, workflow support, first line of support, training, configuration control, image quality support, preventive maintenance, maintaining data integrity, security, and acceptance testing.Interviews with a PACS manager, systems analyst and medical physicist discussing their daily activities and special issues such as image quality, are included as part of a case study. This module provides a foundation for a current or future PACS system administrator professional.
