 What Will You Learn OTech provides advanced seminars for those organizations that require an in depth knowledge and training about specific areas of connectivity. We have been providing these seminars on a regular (annual) basis to institutions such as the Mayo clinic and vendors who need to follow the standards very closely with their understanding and implementations. These seminars have been very successful to get organizations jump-started in a specific area. Who Should Attend These advanced classes build on a solid understanding of the specific standards area, i.e. DICOM and/or HL7 through experience and/or prior training. If this is lacking, a regular basic seminar is highly recommended. How Long This is a one day seminar from 9:00am - 4.30pm. Your instructor is also available during lunch for informal discussions about your specific area of interest. Click here to look for availability as a webinar. What Are The Contents The OTech advanced seminars are provided on-site at your facility. The contents can be customized depending on the specific needs. The following offerings are available: 1. DICOM Advanced training (1 day) - The DICOM standard is continuously being updated. New services are being defined that are critical to be required by end-users and to be implemented by vendors. This seminar focuses on those new extensions, which include General Purpose Worklist, Structured Reporting, the new (enhanced) MRI and CT Storage SOP Classes, which include spectroscopy and raw data exchange, the WADO (DICOM Web access) standard, Registration, new media to include DVD, flash and USB memory, Instance availability and SOP Class Common Extended Negotiation. In addition to these new additions, there will be a thorough review of the image quality and pixel pipeline to discuss the use of Look-Up Tables, presentation state and the Grayscale Standard Display Function. Last but not least, a case study will be reviewed of a virtual PACS installation whereby, based on conformance statements, the students will answer questions about potential issues and/or conflicts from a connectivity perspective. 2. IHE training (1day) - The Integrating the Health care Enterprise (IHE) activity has become a major driver to facilitate connectivity, especially between information systems and PACS. This seminar discusses the characteristics of IHE year 3, the DICOM and HL7 services used, and goes through the IHE documentation in detail. 3. Cardiology and waveforms (1/2 day) - Cardiology has been slow to adapt the DICOM standards. The reasons are the potential burden on the available bandwidth, because of the sheer size of the CINE runs, as well as the additional information that is needed by cardiologists. This seminar gives an appreciation of the operation and workflow in the department, and discusses the new DICOM extensions to encode waveforms, and other cardiology information such as procedure logs and hemodynamics information. The latter is done by the DICOM Structured Reporting mechanism. 4. DICOM Structured Reporting - SR (one day) - Structured Reporting is a recent DICOM extension that has a major impact on the throughput and efficiency of a radiologist. It uses templates that allow a physician to enter the information in a systematic manner. The output can be relatively easily expressed in XML, which makes for a seamless conversion into HL7 version 3.0, and allows for a variety of presentation options. Unfortunately, there are many Structured Reporting applications that are non-standard based, therefore not allowing exchange between different vendors.
