Course Objectives
You will be able to:
- Recognize various DICOM components and be able to categorize DICOM services based on image communication, image and information management, and image quality.
- Classify different DICOM header attributes according to their type definitions, which are also known as Value Representations.
- Address issues with the DICOM protocol.
Skills Taught
After the course you will be able to:
- Breakdown a DICOM header into its modules and attributes to allow for corrections and troubleshooting.
- Configure a device by applying knowledge about packet sizes, addressing, and the various transfer and abstract syntaxes used for communication.
- Troubleshoot DICOM connections, recognizing negotiation and communication as part of the Association.
Course Contents
After the course you will be able to:
- Introduction to DICOM, components, levels and essential parts of the DICOM information model. Conformance, different parts of the standard.
- Attributes, such as sequences and codes, enumerated values, defined terms, implicit, explicit, clinical trials, VET, DICONDE
- Protocols, Addressing, roles SCU/SCP, Associations negotiation, AS, Xfer Synt, Pres cont., ACSE and DIMSE. SOP Class concept and UID's
- Image objects, Secondary Capture, PDF, Multi-frame, Enhanced SOP Classes, specimen encoding
Course Objectives

- Use the different DICOM protocol services based on the required functionality.
- Recognize the different services to be used for input and output of images on different media, such as paper, film and electronic media.
- Identify typical errors that might frequently occur when trying to import images from electronic media.
- Analyze conformance statements for potential interoperability issues.

After the course you will be able to:
- Select the appropriate DICOM services needed to achieve certain tasks.
- Analyze from a typical log file the different protocol commands used for the different services.
- Troubleshoot any common issues related to importing CD's.
- Perform a gap analysis based on conformance statements.
- Select the appropriate tools for verification and validation.
